Metalero

METALERO is a word that encompasses different disciplines of the fine arts made into metal (gold, silver, bronze, etc.) It is one more way to say “goldsmith,” it’s another name for the fascination and the craftsmanship that humans have in regards to metal in all its states.

METALERO is the creative experience and artistic expression of Alexander Cortés and Diana Pulido. A space that has modeled artistic metal pieces in Bogota, aiming at the integration of different goldsmithery techniques in the making of works that engage in a dialogue with ideas and social, historic, biological, and the cultural concepts of mankind.

In their project Renovación, a series of pieces both large and small (potable art) which individually reveal stages of a coral formation, and as part of a set, represents an ordinary scene in a coral riff. The strange and fascinating life-death relationship is observed here, its inexorable coexistence in defined spaces and the always fragile balance where human experience takes place. They were nominated for the National Design Award in Colombia and Lápiz de Acero in 2014, and part of the final official selection for the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño (BID) 2014 in Madrid, Spain, and their itinerant exhibitions in Europe and Latin America. In December of this year it is launched the first part of APROPIACIÓN DE MEMORIAS SURREALES, a series that has grown and also has articulated the human need for telling and passing down their stories. These pieces allow Colombian jewelry, and Colombian goldsmithery at large, to be used as an instrument of communication, as they help recover the memory and imaginings that reveal a country’s identity.
